Sentinel video analytics and tracking

Footfall Analysis and People Counting

SENTINEL FOR FOOTFALL ANALYSIS AND PEOPLE COUNTING

Accuware Sentinel is probably the best intelligent video analytic technology. It provides precise human tracking and detection.

How it works

By applying artificial intelligence video analytics, Sentinel can detect people standing in front of the camera, and provide the precise location of each person with an accuracy of 5-10 cm.

By doing this, it is possible to measure the movements of people and to count the number of individuals inside a specific area. Sentinel can precisely detect the location of people and monitor how they move, as long as they stay visible and inside the field of view of the camera.

This technology is therefore used for multiple use cases and adopted by different industries:

  • Event / Trade Shows: Sentinel can be helpful to monitor the attendance and flow of people. People tracking inside trade shows is crucial for the understanding of the effectiveness of the layout of the booths and to analyze the footfall.
  • Shopping Malls: Sentinel can be used inside shopping malls to measure the crowd and understand peak hours and hot zones, to create density heat maps and plan marketing campaigns accordingly.
  • Airports: the airport management can perform people counting and crowd sizing using the existing CCTV infrastructure to monitor the flow of people and make footfall analysis.

Requirements

Sentinel simply requires common CCTV cameras installed in the areas to monitor. Almost any CCTV camera can work, as long as the quality of the images is good enough and the video can be accessed by the server where Sentinel runs. This can be a local on-premise server, or Accuware’s cloud server based on AWS (Amazon Web Services): the server can analyze the video stream in real time and provide the information about the people detected.

Integration

Sentinel gives access to raw data: this includes the information about the people detected and their location. Sentinel provides API and CSV files so that the data can be easily used by external applications and can be analyzed and processed to get the right business intelligence metrics required.

Customization Services

Accuware can provide customization services, to include additional features to Sentinel, based on your requests. Accuware R&D engineering team is available to discuss customization of the technology and the user interface, to let you get your own version of Sentinel, to address your specific requirements. We know that different projects have different requirements, and for this reason our technology is flexible and can be customized to fit your own needs. If your project requires people counting and crowd measuring we can help and deliver the right solution for your requirements.

WHY SENTINEL?

CROWD SIZING, PEOPLE COUNTING AND FOOTFALL ANALYSIS

We define footfall — also known as People Counting or traffic — as the measurement of the number of people entering a shop or area.

By counting how many people enter, you can determine other key metrics and KPI that are crucial to improve operations and measure important data – such as Conversion Rates and ATV (Average Value Transaction).

Why should I measure my footfall?

Calculating footfall is a key metric for store and senior managers wanting, for example, to increase sales and drive profits up. By counting footfall, retailers can identify at any time of day or day of the week – how many purchasing opportunities they have in-store, and more crucially, by incorporating that with sales data – how many they are missing.
Knowing your hourly, daily and weekly retail footfall can give retailers that extra edge to target peak hours, convert browsers into customers and ultimately optimize store performance.

Likewise, in an airport it is crucial to know the most crowded areas and the peak times in order to better organize the staff, reduce waiting times, drive the crowd towards specific areas, stores and services.

  • There are some studies that highlight the importance of footfall analysis to measure performances and crucial KPI in retail and for several other industries.

  • Footfall Analysis can give important information about the movements and flows of people that can be used by managers and decision makers to improve operations and the effectiveness of the organization. Sentinel provides API and data that can be integrated into ERP and management software to analyze the right metrics and KPI.

  • Opening a new cashier, having more staff in store when needed, informing security guards about the most crowded areas and zones can have a big impact on the effectiveness of operations.

  • Finally, Sentinel can be used over time to predict the future crowds and footfalls: this data can be used to plan ahead of time to improve future performance and have a better staff organization.
